Barisal Bulls’ winning streak came to a halt after their bowlers were unable to put shed on the batting debacle for the third successive time..jpg)
Barisal bowlers defended 155 and 108 runs in the last two matches against Rangpur Riders and Sylhet Superstars to win the game by 13 and one run, the last of which came following Al-Amin Hossain’s five-wicket haul, including a hattrick.
But this time, the batsmen showed immense vulnerability in batting against Comilla Victorians, being skittled out for 89 runs in 18.3 overs which the opponent comfortably chased down in 18 overs to hand them a humiliating eight-wicket defeat yesterday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
That only three batsmen of Barisal could reach double digit figures would tell the story of the match. In a sluggish wicket, most of the batsmen threw away their wickets playing forceful shots.
No. 8 batsman Kevon Cooper was the highest scorer with 22. Rony Talukdar made 17 and Sabbir Rahman added 10. They got 12 runs from extras also.
Comilla’s Sri Lankan recruit Nuwan Kulasekara was the wrecker-in-chief, claiming three for only eight runs in his three overs. Playing his first game in the ongoing tournament, Kulasekara tore apart the Barisal top-order in a sensational pace bowling effort.
Pakistan-born British left-arm spinner Ashar Zaidi also snapped up three for 16 to stall Bulls’ recovery process in the middle while youngster Abu Hider gave those two bowlers a handy support grabbing two for 21. If the heroics of Barisal bowlers in the last two matches kept its supporters’ finger crossed in anticipation, it was quickly wiped out as soon as Victorians came in batting.
