British Council hosts Career Summit

The British Council Services for International Education Marketing (SIEM) organised a career-related event, Career Summit 2015, on November 21 in the capital.
Targeted towards Bangladeshi graduates from British universities, the summit helped to explore their career opportunities in this country by connecting them with employers from diverse sectors.
I studied corporate finance at the University of Gloucestershire. And then I completed my MBA from University of Sunderland. This is a great platform for fresh graduates like me who have returned to Bangladesh. I am trying for multinational corporations. I already have given a few interviews. The current job market is very competitive, but I am hopeful, said one of the participants, Aslam Taysir.
Representatives from leading companies and organisations like Unilever, Robi, HSBC, Standard Chartered Bank, Maxwell Stamp, CONSUMARK and DFID were present at the event.
Prospective candidates were assessed and graded by potential employers based on their field of study, salary expectation, previous experience, competency, extracurricular activities, IT skills and English proficiency, as well as references from their educational institutions.
A large number of current and aspiring Bangladeshi professionals are alumni of prestigious higher education institutions in the UK. Returning to Bangladesh, they are looking forward to build a lasting career in the country.
The career summit aimed to support them with further professional development, and provide employers a platform to hire deserving graduates through one-on-one interviews, said M Jahir Uddin, project manager, British Council.
The daylong summit, held at the Council premises on Fuller Road, also hosted plenary sessions and various parallel sessions, conducted by human resources specialists, UK delegates and alumni on topics related to employment, such as job-oriented course specifications, CV writing and facing an interview.
