The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan insisted of taking an exemplary action against persons found guilty after investigation regarding the altercation between Chittagong Vikings skipper Tamim Iqbal and Sylhet Superstars owner. Tamim had lodged written complain to BCB after he publicly criticized the Superstars owners for humiliating him during their drama-filled match in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
“It is unexpected. We are investigating the matter. If Tamim’s complain is proved we will take exemplary action,” Papon told the reporters at Academy premises yesterday. The national opener and Chittagong Vikings captain alleged that Superstars franchise owner Azizul Islam verbally abused him, dragging his parents into the matter during a chaos just before their Monday’s match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
The two sides were in loggerheads after Superstars tried to play two of their English players, Joshua Cobb and Ravi Bopara, despite not receiving the NOC in due time and the incident stalled the game for more than an hour. Papon said that he was surprised to learn regarding the quarrel between the two parties as he cannot visualize how it all happened because they were not supposed to meet each other during the match time.
“It was not supposed to happen. According to law a skipper cannot meet the franchisee owner of the opponent team. So how did they meet,” he raised a question.
“They cannot meet under the jurisdiction of ACSU. We hope to get the investigation report soon,” he added.
Papon blamed the security forces of BCB premises for misinterpreting the Dhaka Dynamites rally as the franchise team. He said when the rally arrived, security personnel opened the door, actually thinking that the team had come where as they were far behind.
“I was standing up and watched the whole incident. When I saw that the situation was going out of control I asked the security to close the door and asked persons to leave the ground who didn’t have tickets,” he informed.
