Nat’l Undergraduate Math Olympiad tomorrow
SAVAR: The 7th National Undergraduate Mathematics Olympiad 2015 for honours level students will be held at Mathematics department of Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Friday.
Bangladesh Mathematics Society (BMS) and Jahangirnagar University will organise the Olympiad, the Member Secretary of the Olympiad Organising Committee Dr Abdur Rab disclosed the matter at a press conference held at JU Journalist Association office on Tuesday while Associate Professor Osman Gani were also present.
A total of 120 students from 12 public and private universities will take part in the contest.
JU Vice-Chancellor Farzana Islam will inaugurate the Olympiad on the premises of Mathematics department while executives of Bangladesh Mathematics Society will be present.
Addressing the press conference Dr Abdur Rab, chairman of JU Mathematics department, said the Olympiad will be organised with a view to creating opportunity for the young talented students throughout the country to shine and show their mathematical and analytical ability and to create nationwide awareness about the importance of mathematics,.
The top 10 scorer will be awarded with crests and certificates of excellence while all participants will be given participatory certificate.
A question-answer reply session will be held with participants while the country’s reputed mathematicians will reply the question about mathematics. Later a closing and prize giving ceremony will be held.
With the financial support from AF Mujibur Rahmman Foundation, the BMS has been arranging the event since 2009. As a part of the national event, the Olympiad is being organised every year in the country's six regions Khulna, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Dhaka North and Dhaka South.

BRUR announces admission tests schedule

RANGPUR: Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) has announced the time schedule for holding admission tests for first year degree (honours) courses for the 2015-16 academic sessions.
The university authority and its admission test committee have completed necessary preparations for holding the tests at different venues, including academic building of the university, in a free, fair and peaceful atmosphere, a press release said.
A total of 54,292 admission seekers have registered them for taking part in the admission tests to be held on December 6, 7, 8 and 10 at different venues in the city.
Of them, 11,873 students have registered them under the Faculty of Arts in Unit-A, 13,994 students under the Faculty of Social Science in Unit-B and 10,112 students have applied under the Faculty of Business Studies in Unit-C.
Besides, 7,661 students have applied under the Faculty of Science in Unit- D, 5,959 students under the Faculty of Engineering & Technology unit-E and 4,693 have applied under the Faculty of Life & Earth Science in unit F.
The admission tests for Unit-A will be held at 10 am in the first shift, at 12 noon in the second shift and at 2 pm in the third shift on December 6 next.
On December 7, the admission tests for Unit-B will be held at 10 am in the first shift, at 12 noon in the second shift and at 2 pm in the third shift.
The admission tests for Unit-C will be held at 10 am in the first shift and at 12 noon in the second shift while admission tests for Unit- F will be held at 2 pm on December 8 next.
Besides, the admission tests for Unit-D will be held at 10 am in the first shift and at 12 noon in the second shift while the admission tests for Unit-E will be held at 2 pm in the first shift and at 4 pm in the second shift on December 10.
Each of the admission seeker students can download two copies of admit cards from the TeleTalk website of http://brur.teletalk.com.bd using User ID and Password received through SMS from today for taking part in the admission tests.
Detail information about date and time schedule of the admission tests, examination centres and seat arrangements would be available at proper time in the university's websites (www.brur.ac.bd) or [email protected].

Viva for IU admission begins Nov 30

KUSHTIA: The interview for the admission into first year honours course of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia under the academic session 2015-16 will begin on November 30 at 9am and continue till December 2, registrar office sources said.
Registrar of the university SM Abdul Latif said the decision was taken at a meeting of the central admission committee.
The aspirants have been asked to complete the admission process within December 7, he added.
Following the decision, all unit coordinators had declared the interview date and conditions for merit list aspirants.
A-unit interview will be held on November 30, B-unit will be held  from November 30 to December 2, C, D, E, H-units will be held from November 30 to December 1, F-unit will be held on December 1 and G-unit will be held from December 1 to 2, unit coordinators' office sources said.  
The admission seekers are requested to bring their two copies of admit card downloaded from IU official website, two passport size photographs, and  the original copies of SSC and HSC examinations’ transcripts and admit cards during examination.

Day-long ‘Haat Bazar’ for business students

North South University (NSU) organised a day-long event named ‘Haat Bazar’ for business students on NSU premises recently, says a press release.
‘Haat Bazar’ is basically a simulation of business and entrepreneurship where students participate in groups of 4 people; invest their money to gain a profit on it.
A total of 33 teams, 132 members participated in this event contributing Tk 5000 per member, bearing all risks, raising total capital of Tk 20,000. The main focus of the whole incubation process is to develop their leadership, service/product innovation, operation management, pre-event sales promotion, selling techniques, customer relationship management, and inventory management.
The event was formally inaugurated jointly by Azim Uddin Ahmed, Rehana Rahman, members of NSU Board of Trustees and Gour Gobinda Goswami, vice-chancellor in charge, NSU.  Among others, Mizan R Khan, director of EA, Faisal Wali, Director, CPC were present.
