11 BNP-Jamaat men sent to jail on surrender

Eleven leaders and activists of the Agailjhara upazila units of the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami and their front organisations were sent to jail on Tuesday noon after they surrendered before a court in a violence case.
Judge Md Anwarul Haque of the District and Sessions Judge’s Court sent them to jail after rejecting their bail petition in the case, court sources said.
The 20-party alliance leaders and activists who were sent to jail included Shamsul Haque Khokan, president of the upazila unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, Hemayet Talukdar, general secretary of the unit, Razzak Fakir, general secretary a collage unit of JCD,
Kamrul Islam Jewel Mollah, president of the local unit of Jaityatabadi Sramik Dal, Ashis Baroi, former UP member, Bachchu Mollah and Mizan Mollah, local JCD leaders, Anwar Hosen Anu, Jammat leader and local UP member, Shipon Haldar, Mizanur Rahman and Milon Mollah, local Jubo Dal leaders.
Advocate Sheikh Humayun Kabir Masud, defense lawyers, said the leaders and activists of the Agalijhara upazila unit of the 20-party alliance and its front organisations were accused in a case for torching a BRTC bus on January 13, 2015 in the upazila.
They also set fire to a pickup van on the Agailjhara -Gopalganj road on February 8, 2015.
All the accused surrendered before the court seeking bail in the case but the court rejected it and sent them to jail.
