RAJSHAHI: A Bangladesh-India DC-DM Joint Conference was held here yesterday discussing ways and means on how to bolster border relation besides stopping firearms smuggling and drug trafficking, reports BSS.
Both the sides reached in consensus to all 10 agendas came up for discussion during the three-hour long meeting held at Rajshahi Circuit House.
A 14-member Bangladesh team comprising Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Kushtia, Meherpur, Chuadanga and Jhinedah districts took part in the conference while a four-member Indian team comprising Nadia and Murshidabad districts as counterpart.
Mejbah Uddin Chowdhury, Deputy Commissioner of Rajshah, headed the Bangladesh side while Vijay Bharti, District Controller and District Magistrate of Nadia, led his Indian side. Addressing a post-conference meet the press both the team leaders said that the meeting was held in a cordial and congenial atmosphere where bilateral issues of mutual interests of both the countries were discussed elaborately.
During the meeting, both sides agreed to solve the existing border problems between the two countries. They also stressed the need for checking smuggling, women-children trafficking and illegal entering from both the countries.
Our staff correspondent adds from Chittagong: The second Deputy Commissioner (DC) and District magistrate-level border conference between Bangladesh and India was held in Chittagong Circuit House yesterday.
Chittagong Divisional Commissioner Mohammad Abdullah inaugurated the conference at around 10am as chief guest while Mesbah Uddin, Deputy Commissioner (DC), Chittagong District Administration was present as special guest.
In the conference many bilateral border issues were discussed including smuggling of drugs, kidnapped for ransom and terrorism in border areas, said Chittagong District Administration sources. In the conference three DCs from Mizoram sector and Bangladesh Bandarban and Rangamati Border Districts DCs, Superintend of Police (SP) and BGB took part.
From Indian side, Shri Ashish Madharao More, Deputy Commissioner and Shri Zosangliana superintendent of police (SP) of Lunglei district, Smt Lalbiaksangi, DC and C. Lalnunmwia, SP of Mamit District and Shri Lalringdika, SP of Lawngtlai District took part.
