Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) yesterday impounded a container of Global Business House in Chittagong Port for allegedly importing fabrics under false declaration.
The 40 feet long container was imported from China declaring it to be containing ‘fabrics’; however, after examining the sample, the content was found be ‘laminated fabrics’, said CIID sources. Contacted, Zakir Hossain, deputy director of CIID of Chittagong, told The Independent, “A company named Golbal Business House imported the goods with declaration of ‘fabrics’. The company imported the goods on false declaration. We examined the sample and found it as ‘Laminated Fabrics’. They gave the false declaration to evade taxes of around Tk 16 lakh.” “In the container, there was 19 tonnes of goods and its prices was showed at Tk1 crore,” added Zakir.
