Mobile courts have fined 34 people with a total of Taka 84,000 on the charges their involvement in spreading rumours related to the coronavirus (COVID-19) in the district in the past two days.
“Mobile courts led by the respective executive magistrates found the people guilty of the charges,” Abu Aslam, additional district magistrate, said here yesterday.
He said the people were found involved in spreading various rumours at different areas in Godagari, Puthiya and Durgapur upazilas through Facebook and other social media which are harmful for society as well as the public life.
Besides, he said, the mobile courts are conducting drives in order to resist such types of rumors besides creating awareness among the public in general about the importance of staying home and social distancing to check the coronavirus outbreak.
