SPORTS REPORTER, Dhaka

Bangladesh domestic level players, who are part of the BCB’s payroll structure, have come forward to lend a helping hand with the Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) to help raise funds to battle against the Covid-19 pandemic across country.

A total of 91 contracted List-A players have donated half of their monthly salary to the newly formed CWAB fund to contribute towards strengthening the nation’s combined fight against the coronavirus outbreak, the CWAB confirmed about the donation through its media release yesterday.

The amount of money, however, could not be known immediately. But it is initially believed that the total sum of money will be approximately Tk 10 lakh.

Debabrata Paul, the member secretary of CWAB said “91 BCB contracted First-Class cricketers have pledged to donate half of their monthly salary to the CWAB fund. In this situation the way players joined hands and expressed their responsibility, humanity is really admirable,” he said.

“CWAB believe that it is possible to face the current disaster thorough united effort. We realise that the development of country’s cricket is possible with the combined effort of players. We also believe that such efforts taken by the cricketers will gradually increase the quality of our cricket in the coming days,” he further added.

Earlier, the CWAB has pledged to step up extending their supportive hands to help fight the coronavirus outbreak in the country affecting mostly helpless and needy people following the nationwide shutdown started from March 26.

CWAB, comprised of former and national cricketers, through a press release on Wednesday, said that it has formed two committees- Advisory Committee and Convening Committee to help out the underprivileged people who are striving to cope with the Covid-19 pandemic throughout the country.

The CWAB, in an attempt, has decided to form a committee to stand beside the helpless people,” the press release said.

“Under the direction of the Advisory Committee, the initiative taken by the CWAB will be conducted from the divisional to upazila level including Dhaka. The CWAB also want to thank those former and current national cricketers who already provided financial assistance.
