The High Court yesterday granted bail for three months to BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in three arsons and vandalism cases. The HC bench of Justice Md Rezaul Haque and Justice Md Khasruzzaman passed the order after disposing of three separate rules issued by it earlier asking the government to explain why Fakhrul should not be granted a regular bail in the three cases. “There is no legal bar to release the BNP leader from jail following the High Court order,” advocate AKM Ehsanur Rahman, one of Fakhrul’s lawyers, told reporters after the HC order. Earlier, on November 3, a Dhaka court sent Fakhrul to jail after rejecting his bail petitions in the cases.
