Bangladesh national team head coach Fabio Lopez was terminated yesterday when Maruful Haque replaced the Italian to prepare the team for the upcoming SAFF Football Championship.
Fabio Lopez, who was appointed on September 10 replacing the Dutch coach Lodewijk De Kruif targeting the SAFF football preparation under his guidance. But just after two months 25 days he lost the job for the disappointing performance in the five matches including the Yunnan ASEAN International Football Open tournament in China under his coaching.
Fabio, began his assignment with a 2-0 defeat in the World Cup qualifying match against Kyrgyzstan and saw a humiliating 5-0 defeat to Tajikistan with whom Bangladesh drew 1-1 (under Lodewijk De Kruif).
Under Lopez, Bangladesh also went down to Australia by 4-0 at home ground.
Defeat to Kyrgyzstan and Australia may be acceptable but 5-0 loss to Tajikistan and two consecutive defeats in the invitational tournament in China reflected a negative impression on him.
