Media, utility services remain out of purview of 10-day holiday

The mass media and utility services will remain out of the purview of ten-day general holidays announced by the government recently. Utility service providers including Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Dhaka WASA), Dhaka Electric Supply Authority (DESA), Dhaka Electric Supply Company Limited (DESCO), Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC) and Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited will continue their services during the entire holiday period, a government circular said. The government on Monday declared general holidays from March 26 to April 4, aiming to prevent the transmission of deadly coronavirus.  The cabinet division yesterday said the emergency services including health services and mass media will not come under the purview of the holidays announced by the government. Businesses such as kitchen markets, grocery shops will also remain open during the holidays.  The Cabinet Division categorically requested all to cooperate with media staff members while carrying out their duties during the holidays.

Mobile operators seek assistance from law enforcers

Mobile network operators in the country meanwhile sought assistance from law enforcement agencies in order to continue their uninterrupted services during the holiday period. The operators sought assistance from law enforcers in communicating with their field officials, said a press release yesterday.

Notices circulated by the Cabinet Division and the Public Administration Ministry on March 24 said providers of emergency utility services such as electricity, water, gas, fire service, cleaning operations, telephone and internet, etc. will continue providing services and keep their offices open during the holidays and shutdown.
