Supreme Court (SC) in a circular ordered the lower courts across the country to postpone all activities, except for bail, temporary injunction and other important matters, for a reasonable period amid coronvirus outbreak.
The circular, signed by SC Registrar General Md Ali Akbar, said the postponement was needed to avoid mass gathering on the lower court premises.
The circular issued in line with the directive of the chief justice and will be effective immediately, it said.
In the notice, the SC administration ordered to postpone most of the activities of the lower court, excepting those related to bails, temporary bans and other emergency tasks, for a "reasonable period" over the coronavirus outbreak.
The SC issued the directive after Law Minister Anisul Huq held a meeting with the chief justice and Appellate Divisions’ senior judges at the CJ’s office.
Later, the minister told reporters that the decision was taken in accordance with the World Health Organisation’s prescription that prohibited mass gathering of people to prevent deadly coronavirus.
