Power Division under the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources yesterday said the surcharge for late payment of electricity bills will be exempted for three months – February, March and April due
to the outbreak of coronavirus.Power Division in a press statement issued yesterday said power distributing companies under the division supply electricity at the customers’ level. Customers of those companies pay their electricity bills through
banks and mobile financial services.To prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus, a large number of customers don’t move outside.
Due to the current situation, there may be delayed the payment of the electricity bills. Considering the situation, Power Division exempted the surcharge late payment of the bills for three months.
In this regard, power division gave directions to Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) to take proper actions, the statement added.
