Bangladesh national ODI team captain Tamim Iqbal has admitted that he will follow the footsteps of former skippers Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Habibul Bashar Sumon. He said the leadership traits showcased by the trio will benefit any captain both on and off the field. The 31-year-old opening batsman also said that he will study their leadership skills to learn how to react to different situations during a game and take decisions accordingly.
Tamim made his international debut at Harare against Zimbabwe way back in 2007 under Habibul Bashar Sumon. Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim have been his teammates since then. He played under the trio at different times in his career. “Shakib is a great on-field captain. He was never afraid to take brave decisions. I would love to take that aggressiveness from him,” Tamim told a Bangla daily.
“Mushfiq always led by example. He always performed for the team and played good cricket. So, Mushy can be an idol for anyone. I also hope to emulate him,” he said. “Habibul Bashar had always been the father figure. I always rushed to him for advice. He acted as my elder brother,” he added. Praising Mashrafe Bin Mortaza’s captaincy, Tamim said it will be difficult to fill Mashrafe's shoes as the captain of the national team. On March 8, Tamim was named the new ODI skipper for the Tigers after Mashrafe Bin Mortaza quit captaincy following the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe earlier this month.
