‘Ensure quality research in universities’

President M Abdul Hamid yesterday asked the university authorities to ensure quality research and simultaneously the overall academic environment on all campuses. “Research is very important to ensure quality education and the academic environment as well in the university,” the President said.

The head of the state came up with the observation as new Vic-chancellor (VC) of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) Major General Ataul Hakim Sarwar Hasan paid a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban in the capital yesterday afternoon. During the meeting, the President, also the chancellor of the university, put emphasis on ensuring quality research on different contemporary issues at all universities, President’s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin told the news agency.

The VC apprised the President of the overall academic and different development activities of the university. He sought cooperation of the President in running the academic and administrative affairs of the university. President Hamid gave him a patient hearing and expressed his satisfaction over the overall activities of the BUP. Secretaries concerned to the President were present. Another report adds: President M Abdul Hamid yesterday put emphasis on making the existing laws modern and time-befitting as the delegation of Bangladesh Law Commission submitted its annual report-2019 to him at the Bangabhaban here.

“Proper use of law is mandatory to establish the rule of law . . . And it will help to make the trial process easier and quicker, through which the litigants will get justice within the shortest duration”, the president said. During the meeting, the delegation led by its Chairman Justice ABM Khairul Haque apprised the President of the overall activities of the commission and different aspects of the report, President’s Press Secretary M Joynal Abedin told BSS. The head of the state was told that the law commission was working to make different laws, including ‘The Evidence Act 1872’ and ‘The Code of Civil Procedure 1908’ more modern and time-befitting.
