The government has directed that all educational institutions be shut for 15 days as a precautionary measure to protect students from the risk of coronavirus infection. The government has also cancelled all programmes that were scheduled to be held at educational institutions today to celebrate the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The news should come as a relief to parents and guardians. Such closures were being demanded by different quarters to ensure students’ safety. The authorities at different public universities have also announced closures to ward off the risk of spreading COVID-19.
The Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PBSC) and National University (NU) have suspended all examinations until March 31 due to “unavoidable circumstances”.
Education minister Dipu Moni yesterday announced
that all educational institutions would remain closed till March 31 as a preventive measure amid fears of the spread of the coronavirus.
While briefing journalists at the Secretariat, the minister also requested students to stay at home and remain cautious to avert any risk of infection. She also discouraged students from attending coaching classes or walking around the premises of educational institutions at this time.
State minister for primary and mass education Md Zakir Hossain announced that primary schools would remain closed till 31 March. He was speaking at another press briefing at the Secretariat. The scheduled programmes to celebrate the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation at all primary schools today have also been cancelled, the state minister said. He also read out an open letter by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina addressing the students of primary schools. The letter spoke of Bangabandhu and his contribution to the nation.
The BPSC yesterday postponed all its exams from March 18 to March 31 due to unavoidable circumstances, a press release said. The new exam dates and other information will be uploaded on its website www.bpsc.gov.db and published in national dailies.
The press release also said that the results of exams which have already been taken will be published on time.
