Awami League-backed candidate Saira Mohsin, wife of late Social Welfare Minister Syed Mohsin Ali, has been elected uncontested in the by-election to Moulvibazar-3 constituency, reports UNB. Regional election officer SM Eajharul Haque, also the returning officer of the election, announced the unofficial result yesterday, the last day of withdrawing candidacy, as there was no other candidate in the race. Earlier on November 14, EC cancelled the nomination papers of four out of five candidates, except Saira Mohsin. On September 14, Social Welfare Minister Syed Mohsin Ali, who was MP from Moulvibazar-3 parliamentary, died at Singapore General Hospital at the age of 67. Following the death of Mohsin Ali, EC fixed December 8 for the by-polls in order to fill up the vacant seat.
