Staff Reporter

Law enforcers have beefed up security across the country ahead of today’s strike called by the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islam following the execution of its leader Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid. Colonel Ziaul Ahsan, additional director general of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), told The Independent, "We've already instructed our battalions to enhance vigilance to avoid any untoward situation." He said they do not have any intelligence information about destructive activities planned by Jamaat activists during the hartal. He hinted that stern action will be taken against anyone who would attempt to create anarchy anywhere in the country. Mohsin Reza, public relations officer of the Boarder Guard of Bangladesh (BGB), said 13 platoons of BGB have already started to patrol the capital and will continue to do so until the end of the hartal. He also said that deputy police commissioners will have to send a letter to the home ministry for BGB deployment in their districts.
Shaheeda Sultuna, assistant police superintendent of RAB-7, said besides the regular deployment, eight striking teams will continuously move in and around Chittagong. In addition, four special teams will be kept stand by and if necessary, they will rush to any spot to bring any untoward situation under control. Md Kamruzzaman, additional police superintendent of Faridpur District Police, said they are keeping a strict eye on the law and order situation in the district since Mujahid, one of the war criminals executed yesterday, hailed from there.
He also said that additional force will remain in the district until the end of the hartal.
Muntasirul Islam Rony, deputy police commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said that have already started to launch drives in the capital to prevent any kind of destructive activities.
Besides other forces, policemen in plain clothes will carry hidden cameras in sensitive areas during the hartal hours.
It may be mentioned that the Jamaat-e-Islami called a nationwide hartal today as a mark of protest against the execution of Mujahid.
Jamaat acting ameer Makbul Ahmed announced the hartal on their website yesterday morning, just after the execution of its general secretary.
