Leaders and workers of the ruling Awami League (AL) yesterday brought out processions in the capital, hailing the executions of BNP leader Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury and Jamaat-e-Islami leader Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid.
The AL workers also chanted slogans, lauding the government for executing the verdicts of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) against the two top war criminals who had committed crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.
A procession was brought out under the banner of Sammilito Awami Samarthak Jote in front of the party headquarters at Bangabandhu Avenue. The procession marched along the adjacent areas of Bangabandhu Avenue and ended at the starting point.
Meanwhile, the Ramna thana unit of the AL held a rally prior to bringing out a procession in front of the Jatiya Press Club in the city.
Speaking at the rally, AL publicity and publication affairs secretary, Dr Hasan Mahmud, said the war crimes trials have been going on fairly, in conformity with international standards.
“Now it has been proved that war crimes trials are being conducted fairly in the country, as the two war criminals sought ‘presidential clemency’, admitting their crimes,” he said.
The AL leader said those who called hartal to save the war criminals against the court verdict should not have any right to do politics in the country. “It’s nothing but maligning the verdict of the apex court,” he added.
Speaking at the same rally, advocate Quamrul Islam said Jamaat-e-Islami would be banned in time. Banning Jamaat is a matter of time now, he added.
