Transportation of buses, goods-laden trucks and hundreds of passengers from 16 southern districts suffer much due to shifting of ferry terminal to Bedhuria from Ilisha in Bhola as it now takes 7 to 8 hours to reach the nearest Moju Chawdhry Hat in Laxmipur. Prior to shifting of the terminal to the Bedhuria for erosion of Ilisha terminal into the Meghna river the ferry journey to the Hat in laxmipur took about three hours. Transportation of goods and movement of passengers on the Bhola-Chittagong and Dhaka routes have been suffering for last two months. Sources said the Ilisha ferry terminal on Bhola-Laxmipur route in the river Meghna were suspended five times during the last five months due to the continues erosion of the river Meghna. On September 2, when the Ilisha ferry terminal went into the river Meghna the ferry services on this route remained suspended for 14 days. This has forced the authorities to shift the ferry terminal to Bedhuria in Bhola.
Now that the river erosion has ceased construction of gangway at Ilisha is now possible to restore the service from this point. Bus transport owner association of Bhola handed over a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Bhola on November 15 demanding restoration of Ilisha ferry terminal.
