Non-believers of independence
can’t have political rights: Hasan

Publicity and Publication Affairs Secretary of the ruling Awami League Dr Hasan Mahmud yesterday said those who called hartal to save the war criminals against the court verdict should not have any right to do politics in the country, reports BSS.    “Those who were defeated after committing genocide on the freedom-loving people could not do politics anywhere around the world. It’s a long cherished demand of the people to execute the order of the court in regards to imposition of a ban on the politics of Jamaat-e-Islami,” he said.
Hasan Mahmud said this while speaking as the chief guest at a public rally organised by Ramna unit Awami League in front of the National Press Club on Topkhana Road in the capital hailing the execution of death sentence handed down against two top war criminals.
Ramna unit AL president Abul Bashar presided over the rally, also addressed, among others, by Dhaka City AL joint general secretary and Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam, organising secretary Shahe Alam Murad, assistant secretaries to AL sub-committees Advocate Balaram Poddar and Principal Shahjahan Alam Saju, AL United States unit president Siddiqur Rahman and Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote general secretary Arun Sarker Rana.
Referring to Jamaat’s call for countrywide hartal today (Monday) in protest against the execution of verdict handed down against two top war criminals, SQ Chowdhury and Mujahid, Mahmud said “It’s nothing but maligning the verdict of the country’s Apex court. The nation has been freed from a stigma to a little extent following execution of the capital punishment handed down against SQ Chowdhury and Mujahid.” The AL leader said the trial of the war criminals could be held in the country owing to a rock-solid attitude of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and following this, the culture of impunity that has gripped the nation over the years would be stopped once for all.  Advocate Quamrul Islam said, “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina takes right decision at the right time. She would also take right decision at right time in regards to banning Jamaat-e-Islami which is a matter of time now.”  “The death penalty handed down against SQ Chowdhury and Mujahid had been executed while the appeal hearing on the death sentence against Motiur Rahman Nizami is now going on,” he said adding that no war criminal would be spared from trial. The AL leader said the government of Bangladesh would be a pro-liberation force and like that the opposition would also be a force loyal to independence and the anti-liberation force wouldn’t be allowed to do politics in the country.
