Trader hacked to death

A businessman was hacked to death by unidentified criminals at Dewpara village in Kaliganj upazila of Gazipur early yesterday. The deceased was Kamal Hossain, 37, of the area. However, police detained two youths in connection with the incident. Deceased's cousin Shamsul Hoque Bhuiyan said Kamal was returning from his work after closing his shop  at around 10 pm. When he reached Dewpara railway crossing area, some criminals attacked him with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured. Locals rescued him and sent to Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex. Later, he was shifted to Red Crescent Hospital at Uttara in the capital, where he died at around 12:30 am yesterday.  Sub-Inspector of Kaligonj police station Azizur Rahman said two youths -- Saiful Islam and Abul Kalam of the village – have been detained for their suspected involvement with the killing. The reason behind the killing could not be known yet, he added.
