RAJSHAHI: Speakers at a seminar here mentioned that there is no alternative to skill development to free the nation from the curse of unemployment together with taking the nation forward, reports BSS. They viewed that emphasis should be given on making the country's technical and vocational training institutions need-oriented and effective for generating more competent workforce to meet the growing national needs. They were addressing the regional seminar titled "Role of Diploma Engineers in Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) Sector for Building Digital Bangladesh" held at Green Plaza of Rajshahi City Corporation on Saturday.
Skills and Training Enhancement Project (STEP) organised the event marking the closing session of a daylong 'Skills Competition- 2015'in order to create and disseminate knowledge on how to take for the nation through technical education. More than 100 students from eight polytechnic institutions in the region took part in the competition.
Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi Division Munir Hossain and Project Director of Bangladesh Technical Education Board Engineer Shamsul Alam addressed the seminar as chief and special guests respectively with Engineer Abdur Razzaque, Principal of Rajshahi Polytechnic Institute (RPI), in the chair. Prof Dr Emdadul Haque, Head of Mechanical Engineering Department of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology, Engineer Ali Akbar, vice principal of RPI, also spoke.
During his keynote presentation, Engineer Khaled Hossain, Chief Instructor of RPI, narrated various aspects of boosting technical and vocational training towards taking the nation forward. Chief guest Munir Hossain viewed that a person can transform himself into human resource through attaining competence after receiving technical education. But, the country's technical and vocational institutions and other technical training centers couldn't play due role in this regard due to lack of coordination between them. He observed that skill is own resource and skilled manpower is the source of the country. So, the government has given more importance to skill development aimed at building the manpower as skilled to transform them into resource of the country.
