A weeklong group painting exhibition titled ‘Guru-Shishya: Shishya-Guru’ (Preceptor-Disciple: Disciple-Preceptor) is underway at Zainul Gallery of the Faculty of Fine Art (FFA) at Dhaka University (DU), Shahbag in the capital.
The Oriental Painting Studio Bangladesh is presenting its second group exhibition featuring artists Amit Nandi, Malay Bala and Zahangir Alom, showcasing oriental paintings ranging from classical to contemporary.
The inaugural ceremony of the exhibition was held on March 2 on the gallery premises. Renowned sculptor-painter Hamiduzzaman Khan inaugurated the exhibition, while Director General of Bengal Foundation Luva Nahid Choudhury was present as the chief guest at the event. Professor Nisar Hossain, Dean, FFA, DU presided over the exhibition.
Based in Dhaka, the trio, following the conventional Guru-Shishya Parampara, runs various art activities like practicing, exhibiting and promoting oriental art in Bangladesh. They also run the Oriental Painting Study Group that has successfully organised nine oriental painting exhibitions with the participation of national and international artists. The studio not only offers a practice ground for the artists, but also a space to conduct art talks, workshops, awards, study circles and musical programmes. This year, the studio launched Oriental Publications as well.
The exhibition is open to all every day from 11 am to 8 pm until March 8.
