16 shops gutted in Rangamati fire

Sixteen shops were gutted in a fire which broke out at East Lailaghona Bazar in Baghaichhari upazila early yesterday. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ahsan Habib said the fire broke out at a shop and soon engulfed the adjoining shops of the market at night. On information, BGB members from Marisha zone rushed in and extinguished the fire with the help of locals after two hours of frantic efforts.
The cause of the fire could not be known yet.
Shop owners claimed the fire had caused a damage of about Tk 1.5 crore.
One held with 77 turtles
BSS, Khulna
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-6 arrested a smuggler with 77 rear wild turtles from Ghona Bandha village area under Dumuria upazila of the district yesterday night.
The arrested was identified as Ramesh Mistry, 34, of Ghona Bandha village of the upazila.
A special team of RAB-6, being informed, conducted the drive around 10 pm at the residence of Ramesh while he was selling turtles wrapped into four sacks, operation officer of RAB-6 major Md Anisuzzaman said. Ramesh is the member of wild turtles smuggling group, he said, adding that Ramesh is trading wild turtles across the country including Cumilla, Chandpur and Bikrampur of Dhaka for long.
He was handed over to Dumuria Police Station with a case, the RAB official added.
Minors body found in Sylhet
UNB, Sylhet
Police recovered the body of a minor boy from under Dholai Bridge in Companyganj upazila yesterday noon.
The deceased could not be identified immediately. He appears to be about 10-year-old.
Sajal Kalu, officer-in-charge Companyganj Police Station, said locals spotted the body buried under the bridge and informed police.
Police recovered the body around 12pm.
