Bangladesh are eyeing to complete the rout to make fourth straight whitewash when they will round off visiting Zimbabwe in the third and last match of the three-match ODI series at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet today. As the day is a weekly holiday, the timing of the match has been brought 30 minutes ahead. The day-night affair will begin at the beauty scenic stadium at 2:00pm. Both Bangladesh and Zimbabwe turned out to the stadium to hold their pre-match day intense practice session, where the tourists did it in the morning session and hosts made it in the evening session.
The match got a discrete importance for Mashrafe as he will play his last game as a captain. The local players are keen to deliver a befitting farewell to their charismatic leader by winning the match. Though it is a whitewash chance for them, they will play it for him because of his swansong as captain. The fresh players the selectors had picked for the ODI series may not get any chance to play the series-ending match.
Even though it's being heard that Mushfiqur Rahim might not be included in the last match but Mashrafe said the board should sit with him considering his mountains of runs and his enormous contribution behind Bangladesh's success. Mushfiq appeared at the stadium three hours before the team arrived on the stadium premises, where he practiced in T20 style. Later he joined the team practice but he will play or not in the match it’s yet to confirm even by captain Mashrafe.
Buoyed by the performance in second match, Zimbabwe wicketkeeper-batsman Richmond Mutumbani however, said they will play to win the match against hosts. “Obviously you play to win. The last game was a close one but we want to give it a good go,” said Richmond Mutumbani.
“It depends on the day. One day you can bowl well. You can bowl badly too. We just take it as it comes,” Mutumbani told reporters.
“Obviously we have more confidence after the second game. We put in a good performance but we didn’t cross the line,” he added.
The wicketkeeper-batsman said they feel ‘honour’ to play against Mashrafe Bin Mortaza in this sort of match against them.
“It is an honour to play in this sort of game. I have seen him growing up. He has done a lot for Bangladesh, so it is special to play against him in his last game against Zimbabwe,” Mutumbani said.
“I started watching him play on TV. I am sure lots of young Bangladesh players have learnt a lot from him,” he opined.
