Abahani’s sweeping 4-0 win over MSC

Belfort Kervens fired a couple of goals as Abahani Limited took a sweet revenge of their last season’s 0-4 defeat thrashing their arch rivals Mohammedan Sporting Club by identical margin in the Bangladesh Premier League Football at Bangabandhu National Stadium yesterday. Abahni won their third out of four matches when Mohammedan won two matches and suffered as many defeats.  

After a long time it was real encounter of two arch rivals, though the score sheet does not the show the real picture of the game, as right from the kick off both the sides appeared with attacking approach.   Mohammedan conceded four goals but squandered as many chances when Souleymane   Diabate Ugochuku and  Shahed Hossain could not mark the target from easy opportunities. Abahani drew the first blood on 16th minute with Belfort broke the deadlock converting his header on a corner.

This time, the set piece specialist Mamunul Islam floated his corner kick inside the crowded penalty area and the Haitian forward Belfort jumped high to connect his header (1-0). Abahani, who might be played the best match in this season, doubled the advantage the lead just another 16 minutes latter through Edgar Bernhardt. The Kyrgyz midfielder was left free in an open space near the box and he had no trouble to receive a Belfort cross and blasted his volley (2-0).  

Belfort fired home again to double his tally to bring Abahani into safe side in the first half when the best performer of the day finished the combination of Edgar and Sunday from close range (3-0). Nabib Newaz Jibon rubbed salt on the wound when the national striker found the netwith hand-shake distance header when the ball came to his way from Sunday’s header on a Mamunul free kick (4-0). Earlier, holders Bashundhara Kings again survived with a struggling 2-1 win in the Bangladesh Premier League Football against Rahmatganj MFS yesterday.

Daniel Colindres and Boktyir Duishobekv scored one goal each for Bashundhara and Tuarev Akobir reduced one for Rahamtganj. The battle of two finalist of the Federation Cup Football got the height after the kick- off when Rahmatganj opening the space in the first minute with Didarul’s diving header went straight to goalkeeper.   Surviving from the initial threat, Bashundhara blazed with a sharp attack down the left on fourth minute and took the lead when Daniel Colindres made a clean finish after a superb combination with Ibrahim (1-0).

Rahmatganj looked to be more danger after conceding the goal making huge trouble to champions and made a big threat with equalizing the margin on 38th minute through Tuarev Akobir. This time it was build up with the left wing and Mahmudul Hassan Kiron took a diving header from inside the box and goalkeeper Zico could not perfectly grip the ball and Kyrgyz forward was very closer to power his right footer into the net on the rebounder giving no second chance to Bashundhara keeper (1-1).

Bashundhara, who had to struggle much to earn maximum points against Brothers Union were not so unexceptional, as they could score just one more goal to leave the ground with 2-1 win with Boktyir Duishobekov slamming home the winning goal on 45th (2-1). Rahmatganj, though could not make any upset but to going very closer going about to equalize the margin on 82nd minute but first attempt from Sajid volley was saved by Zico and a header off Tuarev Akobir was a goal-line save by defender Nazarov.
