Ganaforum central committee dissolved

Ganaforum President Dr Kamal Hossain yesterday dissolved the party central committee within 10 months of its formation. His decision came in the wake of an expulsion spree among central leaders of the party.  Dr Kamal Hossain and party general secretary Reza Kibria, respectively, will act as convenor and member secretary of the organisation till the next council is held, says a press release.

The Ganaforum, an ally of Jatiya Oikyafront, took the decision amid a sharp division within the party’s central leadership. Earlier, on Monday, a party press release, signed by party joint general secretary Mostaq Ahmed, expelled four central leaders including two organising secretaries. They are: organising secretaries Helal Uddin and Latiful Bari Hamim, publicity and publication secretary Khan Siddiqur Rahman, and expatriate welfare secretary Abdul Hasib Chowdhury.

Next day, the expelled leaders, in a counter move, expelled four party leaders including general secretary Reza Kibria. The others who were expelled are vice-presidents Mohsin Rashid and Shafiq Ullah and joint general secretary Mostaq Ahmed. Dr Kamal Hossain, who dissolved the party central committee, however, did not sign any letter expelling party leaders.

The press release, signed by Dr Kamal Hossain, yesterday said that after the formation of the central committee on April 29, some central leaders inducted their chosen people in the committee and stagnated its dynamism. “Some responsible leaders acted irresponsibly, resulting in adverse reports in the mass media. This cannot be accepted and allowed to continue,” said the release. Dr Kamal said the full committee of the convening body would be announced by the end of this month.
