‘BNP opposing Mujib Barsha celebration’

STAFF REPORTER, Dhaka

Awami League General Secretary and Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader yesterday alleged that BNP was categorically opposing Mujib Barsha celebration by differing Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bangladesh.

The minister said this while talking to the reporters at the party central office at Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital.

“As head of the state of different countries including India would join the celebration programme on March 17, BNP is feeling envious over Bujib Barsha celebration,” he added.

Quader also alleged that BNP has the feeling of aversion for the government’s preparation for celebrating Mujib Barsha and that’s why the party is hatching different conspiracies and inciting its collaborators to create anarchy.

Warning that no one can hamper the programme, the minister called upon the party leaders and workers to remain alert so that communal forces cannot destabilise the country ahead of Bangabandhu’s birth centenary celebration.

He also called upon the party leaders and workers not to involve extortion in a bid to make the Mujib Year celebration programme a success.

Terming the recent anti-Muslim violence in Delhi as ‘isolated incident’ Quader said bilateral relations between Bangladesh and India would not be harmed as this is the internal matter of India.

Meanwhile, a section of university students and some like-minded Islamic political parties are seen staging protests recently against the recent violence in Delhi that killed at least 42 people and injured more than 200.  The protesters called on the Bangladesh government to cancel the invitation to Narendra Modi.
