‘70pc punishment rate in graft cases’

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Secretary Dilwar Bakht said around 70 per cent graft cases filled with commission is proved beyond doubt and the persons who are accused in these cases get punishment. He made the remarks while addressing as the chief guest a view-sharing meeting on prevention of corruption with the district level officials and civil society members at the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner (DC) here on Monday afternoon.

The secretary said once criminals walked free as only 33 per cent accused got penalty. ACC could not touch them. But now time has changed. Criminals are not get away, they gets punishment now.

He expressed a strong note of warning against corrupt persons saying “It’s a high time to make all public sectors corruption-free. We can’t keep an uneven path of corruption for our future generation. We want to establish a country free from corruption.” He urged all to raise their voice against corruption unitedly to fight the long persisting social menace effectively.

Chaired by DC Hamidul Haque, the meeting was addressed, among others, by ACC Director Murshed Alam, Superintendent of Police Muhammad Shahidullah, valiant freedom fighters Shafiqur Rahman and Dr Abdul Mannan, former principal of Shahmukhdum Degree College Dr Tasiqul Islam and Deputy Director of Department of Agricultural Extension Shamsul Haque.
