Solar power will lessen the pressure on gas

It is encouraging that solar power has appeared as blessings for many char people as it turns the local people’s dream into reality by bringing changes to their living and livelihood conditions. People living in many hard-to-reach villages on the banks of Padma River in Paba, Godagari and Bagha Upazilas in Rajshahi and Sadar and Shibgonj Upazilas in Chapainawabganj districts started to dream by using solar power.

Villagers are watching television programmes to become aware of drug abuse, child marriage, malnutrition and dowry and using fans, bulbs and refrigerators, charging mobile phone sets, operating computers and doing other daily jobs. The power has also brought many positive changes in the lives of the villagers in many ways. Thousands of people in different places of the country are enjoying the benefits of solar power.

The initiative has provided the people in rural areas with the opportunity of getting environment-friendly solar power. In the past, most of the people in rural areas would get lost in deep slumber just after evening. Now a different scenario is prevailing at villages. Now the villages are pulsating with activities till late into the night. The solar project is going ahead keeping in mind the government’s pledge to reach electricity to all by the year 2021.

Through this programme employment opportunity for many people will be created directly or indirectly. With the increase in the number of population the demand for electricity is also increasing in the country. Measures are also being taken by the government and private organisations to meet the demand. Small businessmen, people connected with cottage industry and other professions, and students are enjoying the benefits of solar energy in the country.  The programme is playing an important role including reducing the health risk of rural families, checking environmental pollution, saving bio-gas and contributing to afforestation. Besides, through reduction in the use of kerosene oil substantial amount of foreign exchange is being saved.

Solar power can be used as a source of power to individual home, apartment, industry, shopping complex, irrigation pump, street-light and to the national grid. Use of solar power will reduce the dependence on the conventional energy sources. At present electricity is mainly produced by using gas and coal. Solar power will lessen the pressure on gas. Then gas can be used in other productive sectors.
