A week after the spate of violence left 47 dead and over 200 injured in northeast Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday asked BJP MPs to take the lead in ensuring harmony in the society with their "words, mind, and deeds." The remarks come amid criticism of his government by the Opposition over Delhi riots. Earlier yesterday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal called on the prime minister and the two leaders discussed the situation in the national capital. Emerging from the meeting, Kejriwal said that the Delhi Police could have prevented the loss of lives in the violence had it remained active and vigilant like the last few days.
Meanwhile, normalcy seems to be returning in the city with over 98 per cent attendance recorded in the class 12 board exam held in violence-affected areas during the day. The communal violence in Jaffrabad, Maujpur, Babarpur, Chand Bagh, Shiv Vihar, Bhajan Pura, Yamuna Vihar, and Mustafabad areas saw pitched battles between the pro-CAA and anti-CAA protestors lasting for over 48 hours.
