The schedule of the 11th edition of the SAFF Championship has already been fixed for September 19 to 30 to be held in Bangladesh with the participation of all seven countries of the SAFF region.
The 11th edition of the SAFF was scheduled to be held in India in accordance with the rotation. But as the government of the Bangladesh decided to celebrate the centenary birth anniversary of the Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, calling the year March 17, 2020 to March 17, 2021 ‘Mujib Barsha’ BFF will organise the SAFF Championship as a part of celebration of the ‘Mujib Barsha’.
The tournament will be held after the name of the Father of Nation and the title of the competition will be ‘Bangabandhu SAFF Championship’. Meanwhile, the 10th edition of the SAFF was also held in Bangladesh in 2018. The right of the sponsorship of the competition was also confirmed as the K-Sports will be the new sponsor of the tournament with better amount than last edition more than a million US dollars when the previous sponsors were an Indian company Lagardere and the one-year agreement was completed.
Anwarul Haque Helal, general secretary of the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) when talking to The Independent informed all yesterday.
Helal said, “India is always a big factor of organizing the SAFF Championship, as according to rotation they were supposed to be the hosts of this 11th edition of the SAFF. We have all discussions with them and informed them all about our plan to include the tournament as part of our celebration of the ‘Mujib Barsha’ and after having final signal the schedule has already been fixed for September 19 to 30.
“All the participant teams also made their entries and the sponsors also have confirmed as K-Sports will be new sponsor and the agreement with them will be completed very soon and the amount will be better than previous years, the previous year’s amount was one million US dollars.”
