Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu hints Mushfiqur Rahim might not include in the third and last match of the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe.
“If we win the series today, he will not be included in the next match because we’re seeking to form such a team whom we sent to Pakistan for the next phase of the Pakistan tour on April 3,” Minhajul Abedin said.
Nannu admitted they have called him to know about his current decision as they have seen two types of news in the media in the aftermath of the last one-off Test in Dhaka.
“As we have tour Pakistan ahead, we called him to know about his decision for the tour- Will he will tour Pakistan? Or will he change his decision?” Nannu told media during the innings break of the second ODI between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe in Sylhet yesterday.
“But he directly tells us that he will not travel to Pakistan. So it's finished here. We have to think differently now as he will not travel with the team,” he said further.
“We have also seen the news what you’re saying about. It’s not right. We have formally asked him, will he go there? Team management, selection panel and head coach sat all with him. He directly told us that he will not go there in Pakistan,” he added.
Mushfiq made 19 in the series opener but he played an emphatic innings of 55 off 50 balls that brought him out of the hole. “No, it’s not any such of it. We have seen some news that he will go to Pakistan. Again, we have seen in some papers that he will not go. For this, we have formally called him to know about his decision. But he directly said that he will not go there,” Minhajul responded to a media query.
When asked about Mashrafe’s availability in the next tour Pakistan, Nannu said they are thinking of picking a player in place of Mushfiq.
But he said they didn’t discuss Mashrafe’s inclusion in the next Bangladesh tour in Pakistan.
“We are yet to sit for the team for the next Pakistan tour. But we’ve kept it in our plan. The decision has been made that Mushfiq will not tour Pakistan. As a result, one has been reduced from a 15-man squad,” he said.
“In that sense, we’re now looking for a replacement player. We didn’t hold any discussion over Mashrafe. We’ll sit for the squad for the Pakistan series after the end of the Zimbabwe series,” he concluded.
