Over 13 crore metres fishing nets seized

Members of River Police seized over 13.77 crore metres of banned current net during a drive conducted at various factories in Ponchoshar union of sadar upazila on Monday.

Tipped off that banned current net was being manufactured at various locations of the union at night, the River Police conducted the drive from Sunday midnight to Monday morning led by Md Atiqul Islam, DIG of Dhaka Range.

"13,77, 27,000 metres of current net, six iron rolls and bobbins of thread worth approximately Tk 248 crore was seized during the drive," Atiqul Islam said. "Over 8 crore metres of the seized net and bobbins were burnt on the bank of river Dhaleshwari," he added.
