Civil societys role crucial to prevent militancy

The civil society and mass media should play significant role in creating social awareness for preventing violent terrorism and militancy those are enemies of the people, country, economy and humanity. Chief of the Counter Terrorism and Translational Crime (CTTC) of Dhaka
Metropolitan Police Md Monirul Islam said this at a views-exchange meeting with civil society members at Police Lines School and College auditorium on Sunday night as the chief guest.
Superintendent of Police Biplob Kumar Sarkar presided over the event titled Doings for Prevention of Violent Terrorism sponsored by the Establishment of counter terrorism and international crime prevention centre of Bangladesh Police project.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) for Range Police Devdas Bhattacharya, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abdul Alim Mahmud and Rangpur District Council Chairman Advocate Chhafia Khanom addressed the meeting as special guests. On the occasion, the CTTC Chief received a series of questions and uggestions from the participating civil society members, including ournalists, regarding prevention of terrorism and militancy and answered to the questions.
Monirul Islam, a DIG of Bangladesh Police, said a militant or terrorist does not grow in a day and undergoes a long period in the family, educational institution and society as a whole to slowly become such a violent person.
The family members can first detect chronological changes of their son in his behaviour and then the local society people at the preliminary stage, he said, adding that inclusive efforts should be taken at such a stage to bring him back from militancy to normal life. He said the civil society members like religious and political leaders, journalists, local public representatives, teachers and community leaders have to play the most vital role for building a society free from terrorism, militancy and drugs.
Three million best sons and daughters sacrificed their lives and two hundred thousand mothers and daughters sacrificed their modesty to earn the independence of the country where common people will never patronize militancy and terrorism, he said.
The independence of the country was achieved at supreme sacrifice of its three million best sons and daughters and modesty of two hundred thousand mothers and daughters and the common people will never allow militancy on this soil, Monirul said.
He urged all social forces to create awareness from social responsibilities to prevent militancy from raising head for ensuring sustainable peace and security to achieve the sustainable development goals and build a developed Bangladesh.
