Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday asked her cabinet colleagues not to spend extra money on celebration of ‘Mujib Barsha’ or 100th birth anniversary celebration of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The PM gave the directive during an unscheduled Cabinet meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office. After the meeting, cabinet secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam told reporters the PM had also asks the ministers to carry out one ‘Mujib Barsha programme’ from their respective ministries and divisions. “You should not allocate a big budget to
implement the ‘Mujib Barsha programme,” Islam said quoting the PM. As part of the ‘Mujib Barsha programme’, the Finance Division has initiated a process to directly transfer the pension allowance to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries.
The cabinet secretary also said a budget committee, headed by him, has been formed to coordinate the expenditure of the programmes.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet has approved the draft of Sunamganj Science and Technology University Act, 2020 to set up a public university in Sunamganj district.
It would be the 47th public university in the country.
The Cabinet has also approved the draft of the National Agricultural Extension Policy, 2020 to ensure the production of safe, nutritious and profitable crops.
