A mobile court yesterday sentenced 11 fishermen to one year jail for illegally catching Hilsa, violating a fishing ban.
A team of Fisheries Department conducted a drive at Bholar Khal in Meghna River and arrested the fishermen in the morning.
They also recovered 4,000 metres of net, two trawlers and 1.5 maunds of fish from their possession.
Later, they were produced before a mobile court led by Executive Magistrate Raihanul Islam.
The court also fined them Tk 5,000 each. In default, they will have to serve one more month of rigorous imprisonment.
The seized fishes were given to different orphanages.
