Bangladesh look forward to securing the series by beating Zimbabwe in the second fixture of the three-match ODI series at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium (SICS) today.

The day-night match will start at 1:00pm.

The match is important for both Bangladesh and Zimbabwe because the home side wants to secure the series by winning the match, while the visitors seek to win it to stay alive in the series.

Both teams were at the stadium for their pre-match day practice. Zimbabwe held it in the morning and Bangladesh in the evening.

Russell Domingo, Neil McKenzie, Ryan Cook, and Julian Calefato worked with the players at the side wickets of the SICS. Taijul Islam, Al Amin Hossain, Mehidy Hasan Miraj, Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Afif Hossain, and Mohammad Naim Sheikh beside the old guards—Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Mahmudullah Riyad—were at the session.

Bangladesh did not include any new player in the squad in the opening encounter because the team wanted to win the match and bounce back from their five-match losing streak. Captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, who is at the centre of an ongoing discussion in Bangladesh cricket, might be playing his last series as the captain, which makes winning all the more important for him.

The team management may make a couple of changes in the playing XI and bring in Afif or Naim as debutants. Along with that, they may make a change in the bowling squad.

Bangladesh may make changes in the pace bowling department to ensure that no bowler sustains injuries due to excessive workload. So, Al Amin Hossain may enter the squad for the second match, though the management has not given any such indication.

On the other hand, Zimbabwe have got their much-needed impetus ahead of the second match after two senior players—Sean Williams and Craig Ervine—joined their squad.

Williams missed the Test and the first ODI because he stayed back with his pregnant wife, while Ervine was hospitalised due to breathing problems for which he missed the series opener.

Sean Williams joined the team on Sunday and had his first practice session with the entire contingent at the stadium, where he described the loss in the opening match as disappointing.

He said the senior players needed to step up their performance to stop the rut.
