Tomorrow, a live dance musical performance titled ‘Sahasa’ (The Brave) is set to take place at 12pm at the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery’s Gas Hall in Birmingham, United Kingdom (UK). Arthy Ahmed from Bangladesh will perform Kathak and Bharatanatyam dance performance at the event ‘Sahasa’.
Presented by Sonia Sabri Company, the dance and live music work is the beginning of a unique international collaboration of three female artists from Birmingham and Bangladesh. The performance piece is part of the three year Transforming Narratives project.
Apart from Arthy, the artists include dance artistes Sonia Sabri, vocalist Sanchita Pal and composer and tabla maestro Sarvar Sabri.
‘Sahasa’ weaves a web of curiosity and debate through bold South Asian inspired dance and soulful music of Bangladesh in response to research conducted with women in Birmingham and Dhaka around personal aspirations and challenges within a framework of societal, political and cultural demands.
Sonia Sabri Company and Shadhona Cultural Circle, are two internationally renowned arts organisations from UK and Bangladesh. They come together for the first time in pursuit of discovering a breathtaking dance and music creation.
There will be a chance to speak with the artists directly about the research, concept and creation as part of the rehearsal and sharing. The company welcomes viewers’ response to support the creative team along the journey of developing the work further.
