‘International Art Festival 2020, Nilphamari’, the third edition of four-day art event, is underway in Nilphamari from February 26 to 29. The formal inauguration of the event was held yesterday at the festival venue, Nilsagar--a place famous for a large water body at Dhobadanga village in Nilphamari district. State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid attended the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest, while veteran artist Rafiqun Nabi and Bengal Foundation Chairman Abul Khair jointly inaugurated the festival. Former Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor, also the chief adviser of the festival organising committee, presided over the opening ceremony.
Besides, noted cultural personalities like Director General of Bengal Foundation Luva Nahid Choudhury, engineer Mainul Abedin and art critic Moinuddin Khaled, among others, attended the event.
With an aim of raising an elegant, cultural-minded and humane generation as well as creating a mutual connection between the artists of multiple generations, this year’s festival features around 500 artists representing five generations from five countries–Bangladesh, India, USA, Nepal and Myanmar.
A large number of celebrated Bangladeshi artists, including Rafiqun Nabi, Monirul Islam, Abul Barq Alvi, Nisar Hossain, Mohammad Eunus, Afzal Hossain, Jamal Ahmed, Rokeya Sultana, Shameem Subrana, Ahmed Shamsuddoha, Sheikh Afzal Hossain, Mustapha Khalid Palash, Muniruzzaman, Mohammad Iqbal, Ranjit Das, Reza Asad-Al Huda Anupam, Nazia Andaleeb Preema, Bishwajit Goswami and Sourav Chowdhury, among others are participating in this festival.
‘Art Festival 2020 Nilphamari’ organising committee has arranged the festival with active support from Vision 2021 Nilphamari and Art Bangla. With the theme ‘Nature is life, Art for brighter life’ has been arranged in the northern district of Bangladesh to decentralise and diffuse the heritage of Bangladeshi art and culture.
The festival includes an international art camp, traditional folk art and craft fair, seminar, cultural programmes, camp fire and sightseeing. Besides, two international exhibitions—one at Nilsagar tomorrow (February 29) while another at Zainul Gallery, Faculty of Fine Art, Dhaka University in coming April—will be held as part of the third ‘International Art Festival 2020, Nilphamari’.
Yesterday, the second day of the festival saw various performances like Baul Gaan, Bhandi Khela, Bieer Geet, Horikirtton, Lathi Khela, music, dance, recitation and more taking place simultaneously at three stages of the main venue–Dighee Stage, Matia Stage and Mela Stage.
Eminent artist Professor Mohammad Eunus is the convener of the festival organising committee, while award winning artist Md Harun-Ar-Rashid Tutul, an assistant professor of the Department of Graphic Design, Faculty of Fine Arts, is the curator of the festival.
