3-day Internet Fair begins

A 3-day long internet fair kicked off yesterday with an aim to spread use of information technology in the southern part of the country among the grassroots through secure internet and introducing new technologies to the people. Khulna Internet Business Association (KIBA) organised the fair at Hotel Tiger Garden in the city. Mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Talukder Abdul Khaleque inaugurated the fair as chief guest with KIBA General Secretary Ashraful Haque in the chair. Chairman of Khulna Zila Parishad Sheikh Harun-ur Rashid, President of Internet Service Provider Association of Bangladesh Md Aminul Hakim, Regional Director of Bangladesh Computer Council in Khulna Engineer Sheikh Mafizur Rahman and Secretary of Bangladesh Computer Association Khulna Branch Md Nazmul Ahsan Rony addressed the inaugural ceremony as special guest.
Mobile Court fines BATC

A mobile court has fined British American Tobacco Company (BATC) Taka one lakh on charge of violating the existing tobacco control law in the city on Wednesday. On a tip-off, Executive Magistrate Kowshique Ahmed conducted a sudden drive in a depot of the company at Talaimary area and found huge advertising materials including tool box, took kit, trade letter and pack dispenser there. Subsequently, the magistrate fined Mijanur Rahman, Manager of the Depot, on the spot. Senior Health Education Officer Muhammad Shamsuzzaman, Advocacy Officer of Association for Community Development Shariful Islam Shamim and Programme Officer Krishna Rani Biswash were present during the drive. Magistrate Kowshique Ahemd told journalists that such type of drive will continue against violations of the tobacco control law in the days to come.
Programmes on Bangabandhus birth centenary in Rajshahi

District administration at a preparatory meeting here yesterday chalked out elaborate programmes to celebrate the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the district on March 17 next. Deputy Commissioner Hamidul Haque presided over the meeting at his conference room to finalise the programmes. Heads of different government departments, leaders of Awami League (AL) and its associate bodies, activists of different socio cultural and professional organisations and civil society members were present.
