Tips for a perfect child’s bedroom

Decorating children’s bedroom can be a challenge, considering that the room will need to change as they grow. To create the perfect room for your little one, follow some basic tips:

Safety
Safety is an important issue to consider when decorating a child’s room. Furniture, paints, fabrics and accessories should be examined before using to decorate. Avoid furniture with sharp corners, overhanging tablecloths, exposed electrical outlets, and breakable or heavy items on tables and shelves. Wall paint should be bright, non-toxic and washable.

Simple
Keep decorative items simple and avoid items with small parts. Concentrate on making the room clean and safe. Choose flexible or convertible furniture _ a car shape bed may be great for a preschooler, but when he is older, it will be time to buy a new one. So, opt for simple and timeless designs.

Bedding
A quality mattress and comfortable pillows and bedding, with easy to clean fabric covers, are necessary for a kid’s room.

Lighting
Be sure to include multiple kinds of lighting in a child’s room. Bright light for play time, reading light and night light is also important.

Clean
Make sure the floors are clean and you can cover it with carpet or non-slip rugs. Avoid very dark or very light solid colours that will show every stain. But don’t forget to vacuum or disinfect it regularly.

Space
Children need plenty of space to move, play, store clothes, books and toys. Give them room to grow with lots of floor space for activities.

Storage
Finding a storage space for all the kid’s stuff is a challenge. Create low, open storage bins, baskets and shelves. Choose pieces with smooth surfaces and rounded corners for safety.

Study
Create a flexible study area with a child-size table and chair, equipped with storage space. Make sure there is enough tabletop space to spread out projects and that the child’s feet fully touch the floor when sitting.

Lastly, allow children to be creative and express their choices by allowing them to choose some of the furniture, decorations and colours in their bedroom. Their private space will become a place that reflects their personality and they will be happy to keep it clean.
