Nowadays, Bangladeshi security services are using close circuit (CC) TV cameras in many places for security purpose. Yet, we hardly get any news of criminals caught by CC cam observation. So, the question arises: “Do the CC cameras have poor quality video footage; or is it failure of the people, who are in charge of scanning those, to identify the criminals?”
Recently, many violent incidents have taken place throughout the country. In Dhaka, the city corporations have installed many CC cameras in many places of the capital. Meanwhile, a foreigner and a blogger were killed and many others brutally attacked. A boy died in a blast at Hosseini Dalan. In most cases, the criminals are not getting caught. The law enforcement agencies appear to be in the dark, although they have access to clips from CC cameras. It may be the fault of the CC cameras’ poor video resolution, so the faces of the attackers cannot be seen clearly, or perhaps, the position of the cameras is not right.
CC cameras should be of good quality, well maintained and scanned regularly so that criminals can be caught and brought to justice. The authorities should take proper action to ensure that security cameras work properly to prevent crimes that are harming our society and the image of our country.
