A three-day Bangladesh Travel and Tourism Fair (BTTF), organised by Tour Operators’ Association of Bangladesh (TOAB), began at International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) yesterday.
Shri Biren Shikder, state minister of youth and sports, who inaugurated the fair as the chief guest, said: “We are yet to flourish our tourism sector despite we have numerous tourist potential. There are many countries whose economy solely depends on tourism sector though they have limited resources.”
Akbaruddin Ahmed, president of TOAB, said: “The fair will help building a good relation among industry partners, service providers and travellers. The objective of the fair is to promote ‘Visit Bangladesh 2016’.” The government declared 2016 as tourism year and set a target to double the number of foreign tourists to one million from the existing half a million.
Abhijeet Chawdhury from India, who is involved in tourism business, said that tourism sector in Bangladesh can be developed through proper campaigning. From India people hardly come to this country as they don’t know what tourist spots are there in this country. “People visit Siliguri, Shillong from Bangladesh but Indian people don’t visit the country,” he said.
TOAB, the apex tourists’ association in the country, has been arranging the fair for the last eight years. During this time it managed to organise the fair six times.
