The 5th edition of Dhaka Art Summit (DAS), known as South Asia’s biggest art and painting biennale exhibition, ends today at the National Art Plaza of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in Segun Bagicha of the capital.
The nine-day event has been organised under the aegis of Samdani Art Foundation. Starting from February 7, it highlights the dynamic evolution of art in contemporary South Asia and revives the historical inter-Asian modes of exchange.
Art enthusiasts from different places, even from foreign countries, came to Dhaka Art Summit. On the eighth day, yesterday, Dhaka Art Summit drew a huge gathering.
SM Mohiuddin, who came to Bangladesh from Australia for a short time, was among the visitors. “I came to Bangladesh for a short time. But I couldn’t resist myself from visiting the art summit. In Australia, we do not often experience such multi-dimensional works of art from around the world under one roof,” he said.
“I like this art summit very much. Especially, the traditional clay-made entrance is fascinating me,” he added.
Sharmin Sultana, another visitor from Mirpur, said, “This is my first visit to Dhaka Art Summit. Different segments of art fascinated me. I felt more drawn towards performance art where I could be a part of the whole design. I will come to DAS again.”
Samdani Art Foundation has been organising the international summit since 2012.
With the theme ‘Seismic Movement or Transmission’, more than 500 painters, artists, sculptors, curators, art critics, art professionals, art collectors, and architects from different countries are participating in this grand exhibition.
Dhaka Art Summit is presenting various art projects from Bangladesh, India, Afghanistan, France, Italy, Iran, Sri Lanka, Japan, the United States, and the United Kingdom. It is showcasing the works of well-known artists from different countries. Seminars, symposiums, solo and group lectures with the participation of art critic and art collectors are being held as part of the summit.
A documentary exhibition of art subjects has also been included in the summit.
The exhibition is open to visitors without any registration from 10am to 8pm today. l
