ABT man held in Sylhet

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members arrested a suspected member of banned militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) from Sylhet city on Wednesday night.
The arrestee is Shafayet Ahmed Chowdhury, son of Kawser Ahmed Chowdhury of Gonipur village in Jakiganj upazila. He is a second-year English student of Sylhet International University.
A team of Rab-2 arrested Shafayet from his house at Monipuripara in the city around 10pm, said Selim Mia, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, on Thursday.
Later, he was sent to Dhaka, he added. The OC also said Rab seized 15 books on jihad, a training manual, a passport, a mobile phone, a laptop and leaflets from his possession. According to police, Rab-2 got information about Shafayets involvement with ABT in confessional statements from three ABT men arrested on January 29.
5 held with 25,000 yaba pills
UNB, Cumilla
Detective Branch of police arrested five drug traders along with 25,000 yaba pills in Alekharchar bypass road in Adarsha Sadar upazila and Cumilla-Sylhet highway on Thursday night.
The identities of the arrestees could not be known yet.
Tipped-off that a big consignment of yaba from Teknaf in Coxs Bazar was being taken to Dhaka in a microbus, a team of DB police stopped the microbus on Friday night in the area and arrested a man with 20,000 contraband pills, said Sakhawat Hossain, additional superintendent of police at a press conference. In another drive on the same night, DB police arrested four drug traders along with 5,000 yaba pills on Cumilla-Sylhet highway, he added.
He said all of the arrestees were produced before a court.
