Foreign aid disbursement up by 3.1pc

Foreign aid disbursement increased by 3.1 per cent in the first four months of the fiscal year compared to the same period a year earlier.
During July to October of the current fiscal, foreign aid disbursement stood at $731.45 million and during the corresponding period in last year, the government had received $699.41 million. Of the total disbursement, $584.66 million in credit and $146.79 per cent in grant while it was $582.93 million in credit and $116.48 million in grant last year.
While a high disbursement target was set for this fiscal year, in the first two months the ministries and divisions could spend only 6.71 percent of the amount, said sources.
The government's disbursement target in fiscal 2015-16 is $4.36 billion, up from $3.35 billion in last fiscal year.
The progress of implementation of the Annual Development Programme (ADP) in the first four months (July–October) of the current fiscal year reached 11 per cent, which is 2 per cent lower than that recorded in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.
According to the report of the Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED), the achievement of this fiscal year was the lowest during the last three years, as the government could implement only 13 per cent in FY 2014–15 while it was 14 per cent in FY 2013–14.  
The total expenditure during these four months was Tk 11,595 crore. Of the total cost, Tk 7,461 crore was from the government fund. The share of local funding was Tk 62,500 crore (62 per cent) and Tk 34,500 crore (34 per cent) of the allocation. This was released during the July–October period.
The Washington-based multilateral lender dispatched $311.86 million in the fourth months of the fiscal year.
In the first two months of the fiscal year, Asian Development Bank disbursed $107 million.
JICA disbursed $466.31 million, Islamic Development Bank (IDB) $49.07 million, and Russia $45.52 million.
During the period the government made repayment of $394.44 million. Of them, $299.21 million in principal and $69.67 million as interest.
