Death row convict in war crimes case and former Jamaat-e-Islami MP Maulana Abdus Subhan died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) yesterday noon. He was 86. The former lawmaker from Pabna was admitted to the hospital on January 24 with old age.
He died around 2 pm while undergoing treatment at DMCH, said Bacchu Mia, inspector of DMCH police outpost.
On February 18, 2015, the International Crimes Tribunal-2 sentenced Subhan to death for crimes against humanity and genocide during the Liberation War in 1971. The three-member tribunal, led by Justice Obaidul Hassan, found him guilty on six charges out of nine. Later on March 19 that year, Subhan filed an appeal with the Supreme Court challenging the death penalty.
On March 18, 2015, Subhan filed an appeal with the SC challenging his death penalty.
